2011 - Year in Review - A look back for Down In Ashes
2011 has come and gone and its been the busiest and most successful year for us to date.
The year began with us taking our songwriting to a new level - bringing things back to our DIA roots while refining and developing our sound into something new, fresh and truly Down In Ashes. The response from fans and industry has been overwhelming. Weve been dishing out tastes of the new EP (titled Veins) and everyone is digging different songs so far which to us means that we have something for everyone. Its interesting to see which songs gravitate towards people and although most of you have not heard more than the 2 tracks Killing My Heart and Awake, we can safely say that the 6 songs on this new EP are each their own unique creation.
For the first time, DIA went into a studio with a producer. It was a step that we all knew we wanted to try and that we were ready for. We went to Toronto and got to work with a great producer and even more so - a great guy. Mike Langford (The Pawnshop Studio) brought his chops to the table and worked with us, making Veins into something magical. Thank you Mike for all of your hard work.
The Live 88.5 Big Money Shot was another great success for us. It brought us to all corners of the music scene and in the end we were finalists placing 3rd and walking away with $35,000!!. A big shoutout to Live 88.5 for running a competion worth playing and for helping out so many bands who need the help.
2011 had us playing more shows than ever. Thanks to all of the bands across Ontario and Quebec that we got to share the stage with. Thanks to all of the venues for having us, and to all of the radio stations and media for your support.
A big thanks to everyone on our team: Our Publicist - Nanci Malek, Rock Photographer - Sean Sisk your blacks are BLACK!, Producer/Mixer - Mike Langford, Video Master - Adrian Langley, and the man of myths and legendary powers - Cortez Mojito
Special thanks goes out to all of the fans and friends that go the extra mile and help us out whenever we need your help. Taking photos of us, watching our merch, helping to organize with music vids, etc etc. Too many people to name but you know who you are
Thanks to all of you for your dedication and support throughout the years and 2011. 2012 is gonna be a crazy busy year for us. New EP dropping, new music videos.. wink wink, tonnes of tour dates and a whole lot of music!
See you in 2012!

Killing My Heart
Killing My Heart
Come away from the world
Seen it all come undone
This is how I feel
All the memories I've lost
To be free from the ones
True to be unreal
But I'm closing my eyes
To feel all in my heart
Like a carousel
An I ripped out the blinds
To see clearly unknown
This is what is left of me
It's so constantly
Constantly it's
Killing My Heart
Burried away, Buried away
Killing My Heart
Killing My Heart
Buried away, Buried away
Killing My Heart
Cutting through all the loss
So I can speed up my drive
I speak down to you
All the gears hat unwind
Are betraying your kind
Now I'm haunting you
But I measured it all
To seek out compromise
Such a great disguise
But I'm taking you down
To Redeem my demise
This is what I have to do
Repeat pre-chorus - chorus
Come misery
Leave me here to be
The only thing I know
Is I'm never letting go
Come Misery
Leave me here to bleed
The only thing I know
Is I'm never letting go
Repeat chorus
Awake
Awake
Have to be a drone
Trapped in the silence of my soul
Have to be unknown
Behind every secret that you hold
Give me a sign
Something to live by
While I find my way
You are awake, you are awake
Stop controlling
Let me live my life
You are awake, you are awake
Stop controlling
Leave me to my scars
have to feel so cold
To blend in and fill the status quo
Must I be a clone
To recover the pieces that you sold
Give me a sign
Something to live by
While I find my way
You are awake, you are awake
Stop controlling
let me live my life
You are awake, you are awake
Stop controlling
Leave me to my scars
You are awake, you are awake
Somethings calling
Let me live my life
You are awake, you are awake
Stop controlling
Leave me to my scars
Break the cage
Destroy all the things that make you the victim
Bring the rage
Fight fate
Repeat chorus

Kim Vincent - Vocals/Rhythm Guitar
Yves Lavigne - Bass/Vocals
Steve Brogno - Drums
Koji Okazaki - Lead guitar
There are four distinctly different personalities in Down In Ashes. Kim, the gifted singer and prolific songwriter, whose calm demeanour is the bands strength. Yves, the rugged charmer whos talent shines on bass and backing vocals. The mysterious Koji, a master of guitar, whose smile is hugely contagious. And then theres Steve, a comedic stage natural, who gets serious on drums.
Down In Ashes first came onto the Eastern Ontario music scene in early 2006. The rite of passage for this band started similarly to most young bands, working the local weekly shows and trying to grow the fan base and industry interest. Gradually these four musicians did stand out as Kims song writing skills couldnt be ignored, the players in the band gelled musically and the shows became seriously tighter.
Knowing there was something there, the band confidently began entering regional contests presented by promoters and local radio stationsand they started winning. As for most serious musicians, the winnings provided the cash to get into the studio. With the first release Sexy Machinery in hand, the band started exploring new markets, regularly touring in Montreal, Kingston and Toronto, growing the need for their sound while the radio stations supported the singles and presented the shows. Naturally due to demand, the band recorded and released their self-titled second EP, which spawned two videos by acclaimed Canadian Director Adrian Langley.
Festival stages became the norm for Down In Ashes and the band shared stages with the likes of Alexisonfire, Danko Jones, and Moneen. Radio stations love interviewing them and Down In Ashes have been featured across the board on Ontario rock airwaves.
" Great songwriters! Great players!" Kath Thompson formerly of 106.9 The Bear- now at CHFI 98.1, Toronto
Another foray into the studio for a third recording culminated with the band choosing studio magician Mike Langford to nail down the sound. Taking time in studio, making sure that the tracks improved sonically and after numerous rewrites, the album finally showcased the bands sound to perfection.
With the songs ready, the stage show defined and the fan base in place, Down In Ashes will be touring leading up to their full album release in early 2012.
There is something there indeed.
